Working in tourism for more than 30 years I managed many different hostels in Tuscany. Now I manage this beautiful and historical building of 13th century completely restaured in a modern hostel. I like walking and running, loooking for wild herbs, cooking and drinking wine (I consider myself a passionate and "connaisseur" of wine). I am doctor in languages specialized in english language and literature (I wrote my thesis on Hemingway). Presently I am still studying and finishing a second degree in communication sciences in Siena University. I am writing my new thesis about "the tuscan landscape in movies and spots". For this reason I am able to organize movie tours around Florence and Tuscany. I am a member and volunteer of Slow Food whose principles I completely agree.

With a breathtaking view of Florence below, the Antico Spedale del Bigallo is a medieval building of 13th century, which lies on a hill 5 km. SE of the city. An ancient hospice, the "Antico Spedale del Bigallo" gave assistance and shelter to pilgrims and wayfarers in the 13th century and in the 16th century it became a monastery. Today it is a modern and comfortable Youth Hostel with 50 beds housed in appealing medieval dormitories. The Bigallo Youth Hostel welcomes third millennium pilgrims who yearn to live in an atmosphere outside of time and space and who enjoy both the beauty of nature and of the nearby art centres of Tuscany. The Antico Spedale del Bigallo also has a ceremony room once used as a monastic refectory, it is large 150 sq. meters, and can contain up to 100 people fit for public and private gatherings, such as weddings, anniversaries, concerts, art exhibitions, meetings and/or conferences. It is perfectly restored in every detail, from the genuine medieval cotto floor tiling to coffered decorated ceilings. Within the hospice, there is also a loggia and an inner courtyard accessible through an ancient iron gate.
Near the ceremony room there is a monumental kitchen with enough room for 30 seats. With its fireplace held up by mullions, and its two back rooms, it can be used for meetings or as an artistic setting for photos. The large 50 space parking area available for guests, overlooks a breathtaking view of Florence.
