The Glen Lodge and Pub is the current name of the old Glencairn Hotel, built in 1904, situated at Glencairn Beach near Simon's Town. It has long been known by the locals and visitors as 'The Glen'. The Lodge has 8 rooms, all with en- suite bathrooms. The rooms are all different, due to the heritage nature of the hotel, but all are clean, roomy and comfortable. There is also a restaurant 'The Bay Cafe' open for lunch and dinner, as well as the Glen Pub - a well known watering hole.
Along the 'Glen Strip' next door, there is an Indian cuisine restaurant, a pizza take away, a motorcycle pub called 'Viper Lounge', a tourist informatin centre as well as a scuba diving shop.
The beach is a short walk and has a tidal pool. The station is just around the corner, where a train goes straight to Cape Town.
The hotel is well situated to explore 'The Cape Point Route'. Going towards Cape Point, you come to the 'Scratch Patch' a producer of semi-precious stones, before entering Simon's Town. Simon's Town is a historical harbour and navy town, with a lot of interesting buildings and walks, as well as a waterfront. You can go and see whales from here, or go shark cage diving with Great White Sharks. Just past Simon's Town is Boulders Beach, where you can see the biggest mainland penguin colony in Africa. Follow the coast from here to enter the Cape Point Nature Reserve, where a funicular will take you up to the top of the hill to see 'the meeting of the oceans' at 'the tip of Africa'. If you choose to do a round trip, you will find an Ostrich farm near Cape Point and will enjoy a picturesque trip Along the Atlantic coast past the Villages of Scarborough, Misty Cliffs and Kommetjie, before meeting the Glencairn Expressway that takes you over the mountain back to Glencairn Beach on the 'Indian Ocean' side and the Hotel. Famous Chapman's Peak Drive is also nearby and is well worth a visit.
